Local Environment
Thornton Heath / Brixton is probably the liveliest area in the whole of London - a place where a constant buzz and energy can be felt, day or night. This development is partly down to government investment but the real energy came from a street-level renaissance rooted in a restless culture of pubs, clubs, restaurants and a buzzing and dynamic music scene.

The Brixton Challenge is involved in a number of local events which promote Brixton

In September 1997, Brixton Challenge funding enabled the creation of a new Sunday Arts Market to commence operation in Brixton Station Road.

Another small but important project assisted by Brixton Challenge was a joint venture with NIKE UK which saw the first outdoor basketball court in the UK built from materials recycled from old training shoes.

Brixton is fast becoming the entertainment capital outside Central London. The local night time economy is an important part of Brixton's culture and Brixton Challenge aims to encourage a 24 hour economy.
